Louis Vuitton Trunk Owned By J.P. Morgan Family

Rare Louis Vuitton Orange Leather Custom Shoe Trunk Owned by the J.P. Morgan Family. Exterior is covered in orange leather with hard dark brown leather edges, leather corner escutcheons, brass tacks, brass latches leather side handles and leather belt strap binding with brass buckle. Interior has 4 original shoe inserts, 2 with 6 divided compartments measuring 5.5 in. x 13.5 in. and 2 with 3 divided compartments measuring 13.5 in. x 11 in., each with brass tags on the side stamped "T9." Excellent condition overall, very rare, fore end of the belt strap is missing, left side has some loss to the leather cover. Signed and numbered on a paper label "752774, Louis Vuitton." On the left side of the trunk is an oval ship label for Cunard-White Star Line (1934-1949), on the label is the name "Junius Spencer Morgan Jr." who was a member of the famous J.P. Morgan family, the nephew of John Pierpont Morgan. Junius Spencer Morgan III (1892-1960) was the son of John Pierpont "Jack" Morgan Jr. (1867-1943), his grandfather was the original John Pierpont "J.P." Morgan of JP Morgan & Co.; he is the only Junius Spencer Morgan that we can find alive at the time the Cunard-White Star Line was in operation and he very well may have gone by Jr. instead of the third. 24 in. high x 36 in. wide x 13.5 in. deep.
