Transitional Louis XV/XVI-Style Polychromed and Parcel-Gilt Bed

ca. 1900, the arched headboard with an upholstered panel framed by guilloche carving and a floral-carved crest, joined by fluted rails and leaf-carved, baluster-form footposts with foliate-carved ball finials.
h. 52", inside w. 56", l. 77", outside w. 60", l. 79"

Provenance: Estate of Edward "Ted" L'Engle Baker and Ann McDonald Baker, Jacksonville, Florida.
Condition Report: The painted and gilt surfaces exhibit normal, minor rubbing and wear, most notably to perimeter edges. The headboard upholstery is in very good condition with no observed holes, tears or stains. The headboard and footboard are solid with posts tightly affixed to rails. The side rails are currently attached with L-brackets. The correct bolts are there. It may need different nuts, or replacement bolts and nuts (reproductions are readily available). The bed measures 55-3/4" wide between the rails. It is 77" long, so it would accommodate a 55" by 75" full-size mattress. There are metal L-brackets to support the box spring/mattress. The rails measure about 58-3/4" wide to their top outside edge. A queen mattress is about 60" wide and 80" long. To accommodate a queen-size mattress one would need to make new, longer rails, and place the mattress over their top.
