Louisiana Carved and Inlaid Mahogany Armoire , early 19th c., later molded cornice, flush panel doors, shelf interior, later medial belt with three period drawers, fiche hinges, scalloped apron, cabriole legs, h. 88 in., w. 59 3/4 in., d. 22 in. Note: Inlaid Louisiana armoires demonstrate a completely distinctive blend of French form and Anglo-American decoration, unique within the body of American decorative arts. The armoire in the present lots features a neatly scalloped apron and delicate string and pinwheel inlay, indicative of both French and Anglo-American style.
