Lovely Ancient Roman Gold Earrings (pr)

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd century CE. A lovely pair of matching earrings shaped from 81.8% to 90.2% gold (equivalent to 18K+ to 21K+). Each hoop-form earring is comprised of 2 U-shaped halves that are bound with modern wire to complete their ovoid presentations. The lower halves bear applied petite spheres around their upper terminals as well as along the lowest curve reminiscent of grapes, the beneath the loop clasps of the lower arms are tightly wrapped lengths of decorative gold wire. Looped along the top halves are gold-filled bail wires that hold 14K plated sterling silver ear wires to enable their wearability. Size: 0.59" W x 0.9" H (1.5 cm x 2.3 cm); gold quality: 81.8% to 90.2% (equivalent to 18K+ to 21K+); total weight: 2.7 grams.

Condition Report: Wearable as shown. Earring bodies are ancient; bail wire is modern gold-filled, and ear wires are modern 14K gold-plated sterling silver. Earring bodies are missing original clasp pins and are discretely bound with modern wiring. Slight bending to both earring bodies, with light encrustations, and indentations to some gold spheres on bottoms and near clasp openings. Great patina throughout.
