Lovely Campanian Black Glazed Vessel, ex Royal Athena
Magna Graecia, Campanian, ca. 4th century BCE. High-fired with an almost metallic sheen, a glimmering black-glazed vessel with a voluminous body that is embellished with repeated ribs, a short neck that dramatically flares to a broad mouth, and a compact twin loop handle joining rim to shoulder. In addition to this marvelous form, the black glaze enveloping the vessel has developed a marvelous mirror-like patina over the ages. Size: 5.125" W x 4.25" H (13 cm x 10.8 cm)
