Lower half of a leaf from a large Glossed Psalter, in Latin, manuscript on vellum, [France, second half of thirteenth century], large cutting, with main text in double columns of 10 remaining lines of a professional early gothic bookhand (with parts of Job 17), gloss in smaller script in blocks set within the main text columns, capitals touched in red, paraph marks in red and dark blue, one-line initials in same colour with penwork in contrasting colour, recovered from later reuse on a binding of a French account book (with scrawls of that date in French on what was the outside of the later binding, including ‘1738’ and ‘1739’) and hence with stains, small holes and folds, overall fair condition, 158 x 245mm. *** From a once handsome gothic codex, that almost certainly survived in a monastic or cathedral library until passing into private ownership at the time of the French Revolution and Secularisation, and then reused as binding material.
