A career officer and Navy Painter in 1944, Luc-Marie Bayle drew and painted—primarily watercolors—especially during his travels. Assigned to the Ministry of Defense at the Hôtel de la Marine on Rue Royale near Place de la Concorde, he created patchwork artworks made from old French Navy rags.
He crafted the academician’s sword for Commander Cousteau.
Two exhibitions of these works were held at the Musée de la Marine in Paris in 1995 and at the Musée de la Marine in Brest in 2009.
