[ translate ]

Property from a Distinguished American Collection
Lucas Samaras
b. 1936

Box #62
wood box construction with acrylic, yarn, glass beads, pins, glass, cotton, found photograph collage, false teeth, seahorse, crab leg, pencil and shells
6⅝ by 12 by 9 in.
16.8 by 30.5 by 22.9 cm.
Executed in 1967.

This lot contains endangered species. Sotheby's recommends that buyers check with their own government regarding any importation requirements prior to placing a bid. For example, US regulations restrict or prohibit the import of certain items to protect wildlife conservation. Please note that Sotheby's will not assist buyers with the shipment of this lot. A buyer's inability to export or import these lots cannot justify a delay in payment or sale cancellation.

Condition Report:
This work is in very good and sound condition overall. All elements including collaged elements are present and intact. There is evidence of faint wear to the edges and corners of the box, including a ¼ inch area of loss to the beaded elements in the lower right corner. The string is slightly fraying in places and appears to be lifting in the lower right corner at the front of the box. As expected with a work of this construction, a light dust has settled on the surface and in the crevices.

Provenance:
Pace Gallery, New York
Acquired from the above in September 1968 by the present owner
