Lucie Rie (b. 1902, 1995), Austrian-born British potter. Large modernist unique vase in glazed ceramics / stoneware. Beautiful glaze in pink and purple shades. Trumpet shaped mouth. Museum quality. Own workshop, ca. 1970.
In excellent condition.
Signed: LR in monogram.
Measures: 29.5 x 16 cm.
Lucy Rie’s works, usually consisting of hand-thrown pots, bottles, and bowl forms, are noteworthy for their Modernist forms and her use of bright colors. She studied pottery at the Vienna Kunstgewerbeschule, a school of arts and crafts. In 1937, she won a silver medal at the Paris International Exhibition and by the following year, Rie moved to London to flee Nazi Austria.
