Lucio Fontana (Argentine Italian, 1899-1968). Mixed media book sculpture. Titled; Portrait d'Antonin Artaud by Otto Hahn. Deluxe Edition, produced 1968. A lime green oval container case form with two exterior hinged doors opening to interior compartments, one designed to house the art sculptures, and one containing a leather covered book. Accompanied by four abstract mixed media plates, each housed in custom acrylic case. Conceived as a hybrid between an illustrated book and an object, with its largest component a container for a book by Otto Hahn about the French playwright and theater director Antonin Artaud (1896-1948), whose works fascinated many artists during the 1960s. Each oval art piece signed and number LF 25 to bottom of form. Green sculpture numbered 25 of 80 to bottom left of base legs and signed L FONTANA to bottom right of base legs. Book published 1968 and numbered 25 of 80 to opposite of title page. Museum Inventory No. 1998.007.003. Each colored form measures approximately 7.25" x 5.5' x .25". Each acrylic frame measures 13.5" x 10" x 4". The green oval form measures 14.75" x 9.75" x 4". Provenance: Collection of the Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach, Florida. Proceeds to benefit the John and Johanna Bass Acquisition Fund. Guaranteed Authentic.
