Luri
19th century, 282 x 150 cm, North Persia, Varamin
The midnight blue field is densely filled with offset rows of small diamonds. They enclose hooked diamonds with centres quartered by colour change. The spaciously conceived white border of diamonds with a pole running through their centres, linked on both sides by straight-lined stems decorated with hooks, provides a marked contrast to the brilliant and diverse colours of the field. This gorgeous gabbeh with a memorable design was purchased by the late collector at the Kailash Gallery, Antwerp.
COLLINS, JOHN J., Flowers of the Desert. Newburyport 1989, pl. 16
AMPE, PATRICK & RIE, Textile Art. A personal choice (Kailash Gallery). Antwerp 1994, no. 36
Condition
Good condition except for minor repairs and slight damage in the lower right corner.
