Luristan Bronze Bell

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A fabulous cast-bronze bell of cylindrical form exhibiting a concave, circular base and an annular top. The body of the ancient instrument is adorned with three pairs of bands and a square aperture for inserting the clapper of the bell. A conical finial with a petite loop for suspension protrudes from the top of the bell. Size: 1.5" in diameter x 2.75" H (3.8 cm x 7 cm)

Provenance: ex-Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
