Luristan Bronze Exceptional Pickaxe Head
A Luristan bronze head of a pickaxe. It features a short, cylindrical shaft-hole cut away at the base, and is decorated at both ends with a ridged collar. The relatively long blade tapers very slightly to a rounded point, and there are three short spikes at the back. Luristan bronze comes from the province of Lorestan, a region situated in the area of modern South-Western Iran. Axe heads, such as this nice example, would have been used in everyday life but also buried together with the deceased. Measurements: 7cm length, 17cm height. Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present
