Luristan Bronze Flaring Axe Head
A fine Luristan cast bronze axe head, with the socket decorated with three raised lines and flared blade, topped by a raised decorative element. The weapon features some earthly encrustations and a beautiful green patina to the surface. Luristan bronze comes from the province of Lorestan, a region situated in the area of modern South-Western Iran. Axe heads, such as this nice example, would have been used in everyday life but also buried together with the deceased.
