[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A bronze mace head with two rows of four long, pointy spikes encircling the upper half and discoid protrusions on the lower half. The head is of a generally cylindrical form with a narrow opening through the center for mounting onto a handle or staff. Enveloping the mace head are layers of mottled green, blue, and russet patina that imbue the weapon with a beautiful appearance, but make no mistake, despite its seductive beauty, this is a deadly and intimidating piece! Size: 3" W x 3" H (7.6 cm x 7.6 cm)

Bronze Age Luristan art was the work of nomadic herdsmen and horsemen who crafted small, portable objects and weapons, like this mace head, which were traditionally entombed in the small rock graves of their owners.

Provenance: ex- Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
