Luristan Leaded Bronze Female Figure / Idol

[ translate ]

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran and Turkey, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A fabulous leaded bronze idol in the form of a standing female with a slender body and broad shoulders. Gazing forth from target motif eyes, the ancient figure presents a sizeable head with a long nose and straight mouth, all crowned by a short coiffure. The top of her head features a circular rim that leads to her hollow interior. Her straight legs are placed together with jutting feet at the base as she bends her attenuated arms at each elbow to place her hands just below her risen breasts. The bottom portion of her body is wrapped in a tightly wound skirt that extends to her feet. A drill hole perforates her proper left shoulder for suspension. Size: 1.2" W x 4.2" H (3 cm x 10.7 cm); 4.7" H (11.9 cm) on included custom stand.
