Luristan Pottery Spouted Vessel

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A hand-built pottery pouring vessel with a flat base, a spherical body with a sloped shoulder, a flared rim with a narrow spout projecting from one side, and a thick strap handle arching over the top. One side of the shoulder bears a faint register of incised linear motifs that imbues the vessel with a personalized presentation. Size: 8" W x 8.7" H (20.3 cm x 22.1 cm).

Provenance: ex-private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Arthur M. Sackler (1913-1987) collection, acquired prior to 1970, inventory number 70.2.349
