Luristan / Roman / Viking Spear Tips, Bronze and Iron

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE; Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd century CE; Northern Europe, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A fine gathering of metal spear tips from the ancient world. First is a Viking iron spear head with a socketing shaft and a diamond-shaped head. Second is a Roman iron spear tip with a solid body and flared 'fins' on either side of the triangular head. The largest is a Luristan bronze spear tip with a slender tang and a lengthy triangular head with a prominent midrib. Size of largest (Luristan): 0.9" W x 5.9" H (2.3 cm x 15 cm)

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA, acquired between 2004 to 2007; (Luristan) ex-Tom Cederlind collection, Portland, Oregon, USA; (Roman) ex-private Lavers Hill, Victoria, Australia collection

Condition Report: All items have slight bending to overall forms, light encrustations, and minor nicks to peripheries, with small chips and light pitting to both irons items. Nice earthen deposits and patina throughout.
