Lyndon B. Johnson Pen Used for 1967 H.R. 7977 Signing, in Framed Plaque - This lot includes a pen used by President Lyndon B. Johnson on December 16, 1967 to sign H.R. 7977 and H.R. 13510. This lot is presented in a mounted plaque with a protective cover to preserve the artifact as well as the accompanying description. Lyndon B. Johnson served as the 36th President of the United States from 1963 until 1969. He began his political career serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the 10th district of Texas from 1937 until 1949, and actively served in the U.S. Navy as a Commander during World War II from 1941 - 1942. During his term as a U.S. Senator from Texas from 1949 until his ascension to the Vice Presidency under John F. Kennedy in 1961, Johnson was Senate Majority Whip from 1951 - 1953, Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus from 1953 - 1961, Senate Minority Leader from 1956 - 1957, and Senate Majority Leader from 1957-1961. Johnson was sworn in to the Presidency shortly following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and proceeded to embark on a term noted by historians as characterized by progressive policies, such as the signing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1968, the Social Security Amendments of 1965, and the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. This lot includes the original certificate of authenticity issued by Scott Velvet, president of Hollywood Rock-N Country.
