Technique: Copper engraving on Laid paper, mounted on Paper

Inscription: Below the depiction with explanatory text field. The German engraver Martin Bernigeroth (*1670 Rammelburg - 1733 Leipzig) produced about 1600 copper engravings, including portraits of Henning Friedrich Graf von Bassewitz (*1680), Roman and Russian Imperial Privy Councillor; Johann Christian Schamberg (*1667), physician and chemist; Otto Mencke (*1644), scholar of morals, philosophy and politics. Because of the personalities portrayed, his work remains important to this day. He is the founder of the famous Leipzig family of engravers; his sons are Johann Martin and Johann Benedict, who also worked as engravers. In 1707 he received the title of court copper engraver. His pupils included Christian Heckel and Johann Christoph Sysang.
