the fair copy notated in black ink for voice and piano on two systems per page, comprising sixteen bars in all, inscribed by Bruch over the music "Meine erste Komposition (zum Geburtstag meiner sel[igen] Mutter, 28. August 1847)", with his presentation inscription at the end, "Seiner lieben Freundin Melusine Rudorff zur Erinnerung Max Bruch/ Berlin-Friedenau, 27. März 1920", a few careful deletions and emendations
3 pages, 4to (32.7 x 25.5cm), 12-stave paper (B & H Nr.31.E. S.15), Berlin, 27 March 1920, some light spotting to first page,

This is Max Bruch's earliest composition, written in 1847, when aged nine years old (for his mother's birthday), and copied out by him in the last year of his life for Melusine, the younger daughter of Ernst Rudorff. Bruch conducted a lengthy correspondence with Melusine.
