M. Hartmann (German, 19th Cent.) Munich School Interior Scene Board
Late 19th-early 20th century, Gemany
Artist/Designer/Manufacturer: M Hartmann

Materials: Oil on board, gilt wood frame

Marking(s): Signed at bottom left "M Hartmann Munchen 92".

Cataloguer's Note: The Munich School (Münchner Schule) changed its focus over time, but its core identity rested on rigorous technical realism, dramatic lighting, and everyday subject matter.
Instead of painting idealized or fantasy scenes, Munich artists focused heavily on the tangible, raw textures of real life. This "kleinmeister" (minor master) artist utilizes the "Munich Dark" palette. For much of the 19th century, the school was famous for its heavy use of earthy tones—deep browns, ochres, muted greens, and blacks.
Frame H 15.5" x W 13.75" x Image (as seen in frame) H 10.25" x W 7.5"

Condition
Good antique condition. Frame is fractured at corners, Some chipping in frame. Minor scuffs edges of board where it sits in the frame, Painting is loose from frame.
