Evariste Regis Huc, a French Roman Catholic missionary who went to China in 1839, made a famous trek to Lhasa, reaching the capital of Tibet after a journey of nearly two years. Intent on founding a mission in that distant land, he was shortly expulsed at the insistence of the Chinese resident, and he was forced to return to China proper. In 1852, his health shattered, he returned to France, wrote an account of his expedition, and this later work describing China in general. Stickers from book gallery on front free endpapers.
Condition Report: Touches of wear to cloth; map toned and foxed with 4 inch tear along upper fold, miniscule tear at intersections of folds and 2 small stub tears, no loss, textblock marginally toned with occasional smudges and foxing; very good.
