M1834 CARABINIERI ITALIAN MILITARY POLICE SWORD

[ translate ]

Italian Model 1834 sword, as carried by the military police (Carabinieri) from 1834 thru 1981. This particular example dates to the early 20th century, probably the 1920's. The saber itself features a slightly curved, 23" polished steel blade, a sold brass hilt (to include grip & hand-guard), plus a steel tang-locking nut. On the blade ricasso is a small, shallow, two-letter stamping: "CA" (indicating Carabinieri). Pre-WW2 German policemen carried a similar edged weapon, but the W. K. & C. logo was deeply stamped into the blade ricasso and the scabbard fittings were slightly different. These German-made "export versions" to Italy featured only the "CA" stampings, no manufacturer's logo. The scabbard is made of leather with solid brass fittings, both top & bottom. Blade has been buffed. Very Good
