Madison writes: "The mare has been so little in use since she was purchased that I can not judge of the degree in which her value may be impaired by the defect alluded to in yr letter. I think it most proper therefore to leave it to your own knowledge & judgment to decide that point. I enclose $50 the balance of the price agreed on, and you can return any of it which you think ought to be deducted."
