MAGRITTE RENE: (1898-1967)
MAGRITTE RENE: (1898-1967) Belgian surrealist artist. A.L.S., Rene, to the verso of a colour postcard (the recto featuring an image of one of Magritte´s framed paintings incorporating his famous ´leaf-bird´ motif), n.p., n.d., to Alise Gonne Magritte, his cousin, in French. Magritte thanks his cousin for their Easter wishes and informs her that matters aren´t too bad with him and that the exam results were satisfactory, remarking ´Je recommence à travailler, dans quelques temps je serai, j´espère, ni moins bien ni mieux que je l´etais avant mon accés de bronchite´ (Translation: ´I’m getting back to work, and in a little while I hope to be neither worse nor better off than I was before my bout of bronchitis´). One small, light stain to the lower edge, only very slightly affecting the signature, otherwise VG
