MAJIAYAO CULTURE TERRACOTTA PAINTED STORAGE JAR

Ca. 2400-2300 BC. A terracotta painted vase featuring an out-turned rim, cylindrical neck, broad, flaring shoulders, conical body, and flat base. The neck and shoulder of the vessel are adorned with intricate bichrome net designs, showcasing the Majiayao Culture's artistic creativity and technical skills. The Majiayao Culture thrived in the central Chinese region of Gansu from around 3300 to 2000 BC. This pottery jar would have been used to store food, water, or other valuable items. The design of the vessel, with its broad shoulders and conical body, made it ideal for storing a large quantity of content. The bichrome net designs on the neck and shoulder of the jar were likely symbolic or decorative in nature, representing the culture's beliefs or aesthetics.
