MAJOR GEN. CALEB VANCE HAYNES FRENCH FLYING LOG BOOK

Pilot's log maintained by future USAF Major General CALEB VANCE HAYNES during his service in France in late 1918. The signed log, approx. 100pp. 12mo., contains about 14 pages of entries for the period June 13-Sep. 6, 1918. Haynes was employed in "testing and flying" a wide variety of aircraft, including the Spad Types 13 and 7, Sopwith Camel, Nieuport, Marane Parasol, S.E. 5A, Codron, Breguet, Salmson, and Liberty DH-4, and also flying acrobatics, practicing formation flying, etc. Several officers attest to Haynes' brilliant flying on the last few pages. Very good. CALEB VANCE HAYNES (1895-1966) was a U.S. Air Force major general and one of the most important and talented military aviators and commanders of World War II. Haynes organized the Assam-Burma-China Ferry Command and evacuated Burma with the Chinese and RAF. He then went to China to organize and command the Bomber Command of the China Air Task Force under Gen. Claire Chennault. He later returned to India to organize the India Air Task Force of the 10th Air Force.
