Herschel and Struve / reduced to the year / 1860 / J. W. [illegible] / Charing Cross and Leicester Square / London / 18[illegible]"; the 18 inch-diameter globe with 24 gores, within a brass meridian ring raised on a mahogany stand; Provenance: The Estate of Barry Tarlow, Los Angeles; overall: 42 inches high
Condition Report: There are cracks and large, obvious repairs to the equator ring; wear to red paint on outer edge of equator ring; scratches and scattered mars, abrasions and small losses to the paper gores; heavier losses, abrasions and scratches to the paper on the underside of the globe, including a large area of wear adjacent to the publisher's inscription; darkening to the paper inset on the stand's under shelf; the stand itself in good condition with only minor wear, and with some joint separation between a turned stretcher and leg, exposing the dowel. The globe rotates on the axis freely but does not deviate from the slightly tilted angle.
