[MALTA - PRIVATEERING] CASTELLI, Vincenzo, Prince of Torremuzza (1727-1792). I Fasti di Agnolo Emo. Syracuse: Pulejo, 1792.
An apparently unrecorded edition, not traced in public library catalogues and with no auction records (RBH), of this encomiastic poem celebrating Angelo Emo (1731-1792), the last great Capitano da Mar of the Venetian Republic. Published in the year of the admiral's death at Malta on 3 March 1792, the poem commemorates Emo's principal exploits, notably the naval campaigns conducted from Malta between 1784 and 1786 against the Barbary pirates and the Bey of Tunis. During these campaigns, Emo pioneered the use of innovative floating batteries to bombard coastal fortifications, achieving some of the most notable successes of the Venetian navy in the final years of its maritime power.
4to (264 × 185 mm). Bound in decorated paper with matching endpapers (upper cover worn). (1)
