MANDEL, Francisco - Codex medicamentarius seu Pharmacopoeia nanceiana.

[ translate ]

Description: 8vo: lxxxvi-311-[1] pp. (some spotting throughout, some tiny wormholes). - Very rare and unique edition of this pharmacopeia compiled by Mandel. Worldcat gives only one copy in the Wellcome Library. Text in Latin and French on facing pages. The Codex was compiled after the promulgation of new statutes for the body of Nancy apothecaries by Stanislaus I in 1764. It was only some 20 years later that Mandel took up the commission and devoted himself to writing down a new chemical nomenclature and partially new names for preparations. This makes the Codex simpler than the one of Paris 1758 and of significant pharmaceutical use. The Codex was only completed at the time of the Revolution and appeared for this reason only between 1795 and 1797. - Ref. Wellcome IV:40. - COPAC. - Labrude, Pierre, Odontological drug of unknown or poorly known pharmacopoeias, in Nancy, around 1800, in Actes. Société française d'histoire de l'art dentaire, 2008, 13, pp. 32-34. - Labrude, P., Martin, J., [The Pharmacopee de Nancy from François Mandel], abstract. - Not in BnF. - Prov. "F. Mandel" (ms. ownership entry/signature in ink on verso title, as found in some other copies).
Artist Name: MANDEL, Francisco Circa: [1795]

Condition: Later marbled paper boards, flat spine, red leather title label.
