Held in an 18th century English carved and gilded frame, with foliate sight-edge, continous scrolling flowerheads and strapwork in low relief running to acanthus corners.

The Rialto Bridge, with shops and stalls spanning the arch, a famous landmark in Venice, and provided the only foot passage across the Grand Canal. In this painting it stands out against the luminous sky and serves as a backdrop to the busy traffic of boats going about their business on the main waterway through the city.

Bernardo Bellotto (1721-1780), also known as Canaletto the Younger, was an Italian painter of the 18th century. He was born in Venice, the nephew of Giovanni Antonio Canal, a renowned painter of the time known as Canaletto. Bellotto followed in his uncle's footsteps and became a painter of cityscapes, landscapes, and architectural works.Click here to share:
