MANNER OF PIERRE MIGNARD
Portrait of man, traditionally identified as Louis, the Grand Dauphin of France (1661-1711), bust length

oil on canvas, in a painted oval
70 by 61.5cm.; 27½by 24 1/4in.

Condition Report:
The canvas is lined, and the paint surface is dirty with a discoloured and slightly blanched varnish. The network of craquelure in the sitter’s hair and face has become slightly more pronounced, which has resulted in a few tiny losses. These areas would benefit from stabilisation. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals minor, scattered retouching in his hair, including throughout the end of his lock on the right. There also appears to be some retouching in his cravat. In overall moderate condition.
