MANOUCHER YEKTAI
b.1922
American
UNTITLED

signed and dated Yektai '61
oil on canvas
80 by 80cm.; 31½ by 31½in.

Condition Report:
Condition:
This work is in good condition. There is minor craquelure on the heavy impasto on top right, in particular on the white paint. The paint surface has an even varnish layer. The paint surface displays scattered areas of craquelure which are raised in places, most notably within the dark painted passages in the left side of the composition and below the centre of the upper edge. These are stable at present. There are also scattered fine lines of drying craquelure within the dark pigments. These are also stable and are attributable to the natural drying processes of the artist's materials. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows scattered retouchings which have been applied at different stages, including: 1) an area of historic retouchings within the dark pigments below the centre of the upper edge, 2) several retouchings within the dark pigments towards the lower part of the left edge, and 3) a retouching towards towards the upper left corner and small retouchings within the crimson paint below the centre right of the upper edge. Other retouchings are also visible. The pale and pink painted parts of the composition are in generally good state of preservation. A final retouching and restoration has been done prior to the auction to consolidate the cracks and craquelure, all of which is only apparent when viewed under the UV light.

Colour:
The catalogue illustration is accurate; however, there is a lot more texture and depth in the original work.
