MAP, Ancient World, Bourgoin
Ancient World. Bourgoin, Carte Universelle de Ptolomee, from Le Spectacle de la Nature, 1750 (circa). Hand Color. This interesting map superimposes a modern map of the eastern hemisphere over a map of the world as described by Ptolemee. A few of the notable differences between the ancient and modern worlds are the outline of Africa, an oversized Taprobana (Sri Lanka) in place of the East Indies, and the discovery of Australia. Published in Noel Antoine Pluche's Le Spectacle de la Nature, a book dedicated to natural history.
Dimensions: 5.5 x 7.5 in
Condition Report: Issued folding with minor soiling and trimmed at bottom with loss of part of the last line of text below the map. Grade: B+
