MAP, Eastern US, Marmocchi
Eastern United States. Francesco Marmocchi, Stati Occidentali della Unione Americana, from Geografia Commerciale, 1850 (circa). Hand Color. This is a very scarce Italian map illustrating the eastern part of the United States. The map shows unique boundaries between the states, with an emaciated Mississippi, a Tennessee that extends south into Alabama, and no western boundary to Louisiana. Wisconsin extends diagonally to the northwest, without a northern boundary. Arkansas also extends indefinitely to the west. Rivers, mountains and lakes are well detailed, and the only cities identified are the state capitals. Although this map was published circa 1850, it is quite outdated for its time. Engraved by Campo Antice.
Dimensions: 10.9 x 13.3 in
Condition Report: Contemporary outline color on a bright sheet with light, scattered foxing that is almost entirely confined to the blank margins. Grade: A
