[WALDSEEMULLER, MARTIN]. Decima Asiae Tabula. [Strasburg: circa 1513 or later]. Woodcut map with hand-coloring. Printed area 14 1/2 x 22 1/2 inches (37 x 57cm); the full sheet 16 3/4 x 23 3/8 inches (43 x 59.5 cm); framed. Two small wormholes in the image (matching when folded), lightly toned.
Rare and one of the first maps of the region. Based on the Ptolemaic projection, Waldseemuller's Decima Asiae Tabula first appeared in his Geographiae opus novissima, the map of India considered one of the twenty "modern" maps in the atlas. The atlas was reprinted in 1520 and smaller format editions were issued thereafter.
