[ translate ]

Marc Chagall (French/Russian, 1887-1985), 1980. 'Peintre, Ange, et Amoureux (Painter, Angel, and Lover)', tempera on masonite, signed 'Marc Chagall' to LR, inscribed, signed, and dated to verso 'Tempera / Marc Chagall / 1980'. Approximate dimensions: masonite h. 16", w. 13"; frame h. 25.25", w. 22", d. 1.5". Note: Accompanied with Certificate of Authenticity from Jean-Louis Prat, acting as agent of the Comite Marc Chagall, reference no. 92005. Provenance: The Collection of Bridget & Jerome Dobson, Atlanta, GA; as purchased from Sotheby's New York, Sale 7132, May 14, 1998, Lot 366.
Condition Report: Condition report performed by Atlanta Art Conservation Center. Overall condition of the painting is good. There are losses in the upper left corner along the edge, but no active flaking. Additionally the corners of the board are slightly abraded which appears to be from previous housing. The losses are not visible when the painting is framed. The paint layer is stable throughout the surface of the painting. The areas where the artist carved into the surface are stable with no losses or weak areas. The verso of the board is stable with losses along the edges to the priming layer that has left the board exposed. The signature on the verso is visible when framed as there is a cutout in the backing board with polyester sheeting to protect the surface.
