The use of a digital printing technique allowed Quinn to achieve the intensity and definition of colour that he wanted here. Inspired by his Iris series of paintings from 2009, this work reflects one of his enduring artistic understandings, that we are materially connected to the wider universe. The close proximity and enlarged scale of the image distort our experience making the iris almost abstract and evoking other imagery, most notably of stars and galaxies.
