In the village of Brockenhurst, New Forest, the Golf Club was founded in 1919. "Brokenhurst" Manor Golf Club, pictured in the background, appears without the 'c,' which was allegedly the correct original spelling. As the story goes, the railway accidentally added the 'c' in its signage, and the name stuck.
