MARKED 18TH C. SCOTTISH BASKET HILT BROADSWORD
Traditional Scottish highland claymore pierced basket hilted broadsword. Steel basket hilt decorated with traditional pierced heart pattern of the late 17th and early 18th century, prior to the transition to the Pattern 1828. Blade bears double edge and is marked on both sides of the blade near ricasso "ANDREA FERARA", ray skin wrapped handle. Maker marked to a famous Spanish blacksmiths clan of 17th and 18th century. With a prominent "S" letter worked into the all steel basket hilt perhaps denoting the Steward clan or other Jacobite affiliation.
