MARTIN LEWIS, (AMERICAN, 1881–1962) DRYPOINT, ON WOVE PAPER 1933 H 8.9" W 14.6" WET NIGHT, ROUTE 6 Signed in the plate lower left and signed in pencil lower right. A superb, luminous, richly-inked impression of this scarce print, with all the details distinct. Edition of approximately 51. Provenance: Kennedy Co. -785 - 5th. Ave. NYC. (paper label affixed verso). Literature: McCarron 104. According to McCarron, "The locale depicted is the highway between Newtown and Sandy Hook, Connecticut (Lewis and his family had moved from New York to Connecticut, on the advice of friend and fellow artit Armin Landeck, during the Depression years)." We have found only 7 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years. Sheet Size H 12.75" W 18.5" Frame Measurements H 15.5" W 20.75"

Condition Report: with pale light staining, with dry mount tape along the extreme sheet edges (extending from the sheet edges into the margin approx. 3/8in), with specks of framing adhesive residue in the upper right margin (unobtrusive to the image), with a few specks of pale foxing (in the margin), with a stray pencil notation along the extreme lower sheet edge recto, otherwise no visible abrasions. Framed in painted wood and glass.
