LOT NOTES
Armenian poet, writer and literary figure Hovhannes Toumanian (1869-1923) is known for his poems, ballads and fables inspired by the reality of everyday life. His work is simple, natural and poetic, and many of his phrases and expressions are used in everyday conversation. Saryan was often inspired by Armenian literature, illustrating popular fables and tales - in this case, Toumanian's The Hunter That Lied.

CONDITION
Observed out of frame, the painting appears in good condition. Visible wear to the upper left and right corners. Reworking to the inscription to the right, visible under normal light against the cream ground. Inspection under UV light shows reworking to the inscription by the artist.
framed dimensions: 60 x 74 cm (23 5/8 x 29 1/8 in.)
