MARX HARPO: (1888-1964) American Film Comedian, one of the Marx Brothers. A brief A.L.S., with his initial H, one page, 4to, New York, n.d., to [Mildred] Dilling, on his scarce, early personal printed stationery. Marx simply states, 'Please give this check (no longer present) to York'. Marx's illustrated notepaper is headed Harpo Duer Marx and features two circular images of the comedian, the first in a youthful head and shoulders pose with the caption Mr. Marx at Home and the second depicting him in a full length pose playing his harp with the printed caption Mr. Marx Being Funny. To the left margin appear several testimonials including one by W. Somerset Maugham ('Why do we all love Harpo Marx?') and another by George Bernard Shaw ('I was much embarrassed by Mr. Marx'). An attractive, early letter with a good association. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VG £200-300 Mildred Dilling (1894-1982) American Harpist whose pupils included Harpo Marx.
