MARY CHASE PERRY PEWABIC POTTERY EARTHENWARE BOTTLE NECK VASE, C. 1912-1920 H 8.5" DIA 6"

[ translate ]

Pewabic white clay body. Iridescent glaze over green matte glaze with reduction. Underside having impressed "Pewabic Detroit" mark and paper label used from 1908-1920. Cloth tape inscribed with "M2" on underside. Provenance: property of a prominent metro Detroit collector of Pewabic Pottery.
Condition: No damage or restoration to glaze or vessel. Vases of which Mary Chase Perry gave the "M2" designation are rarely, if ever found in private collections. Charles Lang Freer suggested that Miss Perry set aside exceptional examples of her work and designate them with M1, M2, or M3 labels. Most examples of M1 and M2 designated pieces are in museum collections.
