LOT 1066

MATTED AND FRAMED DOCUMENT SIGNED BY ABRAHAM LINCOLN.

[ translate ]

Two documents framed and matted within a frame measuring 18-1/2" X 25-1/2". The first, a notarized document dated 3 October, 1864, granting clemency to a soldier reading "Let this boy be discharged on refunding any bounty received" and signed "A. Lincoln". President Lincoln spent considerable time reviewing the results of army courts-martial cases. He was especially interested in capital sentences, and the pleas made by ordinary citizens on behalf of men under military arrest and incarceration. Here, for unspecified reasons, he directs the release of “this boy” who had enlisted in the Union Army and received the standard bonus. CONDITION: Document exhibits fold lines and toning, the Lincoln signature clear and bright. The second document measures 7-3/8" X 9-1/2", a pass issued to Joseph Forgus of the 3rd PA Cavalry, dated 17 October, 1864. CONDITION: Very good with clear printing and writing. DG Condition: Dimensions: Frame: 18 - 1/2" x 25 - 1/2".
