MAZDA - c.1930

Rare, original, domed enamel advertising sign.
50.5 x 40.5 cm. “Email. Ed.Jean”

In very good condition -

This sign is a fine example of the craftsmanship of the Edmond Jean enamel workshop.
It retains fantastic colors with optimal mirror-like brilliance.
There are only minor, localized chips along the edges, with touch-ups applied exclusively to those specific chips.

Referring to light bulbs.

The name “Mazda” for lighting was created in 1909 in the United States by General Electric, which registered the name as a trademark for tungsten-filament light bulbs, as it evoked Ahura Mazda, a deity associated with light in Zoroastrian mythology (the ancient religion of Persia).
This trademark was subsequently licensed to other manufacturers, including companies in Europe, such as British Thompson Houston, and in France, to standardize incandescent light bulbs.
In France, “Mazda” lighting was marketed starting in 1921 by the Compagnie des Lampes.
