"MEDICIS"-STYLE HEAD OF THE GODDESS VENUS. It is tilted slightly to the left. Her abundant, wavy hair is held back by a headband. The back of the occiput was hollowed out at a later date where the bun would have been to accommodate a mounting tenon.
White marble.
Deep beige discoloration and limestone deposits. Losses and chips. Traces of cleaning and later repairs.
Roman art, circa the 2nd century. Height: 32 cm.
Provenance: Collection of Louis Arride (1936–2026), a painter of the Toulon School; discovered by his father before 1939 in a terraced garden on his property in Toulon, where it had been used as a reused stone.
