MEDIEVAL IRON ARROW HEADS (6)

c. 1000-1300 AD. Medieval. A lot of six medieval arrowheads (from left to right): 1) triangular-shaped arrowhead with pyramidal section transitioning a tang: 2) robust, triangular-shaped arrowhead with square section and a tang: 3) arrowhead with polygonal body, elongated point and tang; 4) barbed, triangular-shaped arrowhead with pyramidal section; 5) triangular-shaped arrowhead with square section and tang; 6) Triangular-shaped arrowhead with slight barbs and a wide tang. Arrows were a key part of medieval society both as instruments of war but also as weapons for hunting. One of the most evocative images of arrows as weapons of war appears on the Bayeux Tapestry, where King Harold is depicted after taking an arrow to the eye, leading to the Norman victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 AD.
