MEDIEVAL IRON AXE HEAD ON STAND

c. 1400 AD, Medieval Persian. Iron axehead formed of elongated triangular blade joined to a circular socket by means of a rivet. Medieval Persia was an unstable and warlike place, where a dozen different dynasties rose and fell by the blade in the course of the 500 years before the Safavids brought peace and stability to the region in 1501 AD. This beautiful spearhead embodies the need for medieval Persians to be armed and ready in order to survive and thrive. Good condition; on a custom-made stand. Size: H:145mm/L:125mm/H:130mm (without stand); 444g. Provenance: From an old British collection of Asian Art formed in the 1990 on the UK and European art market.
